The three levels of doll + VR
Level 1 — Sync: VR video plus a script-synced stroker (The Handy, Keon). The doll sits beside you or you use her manually. Cheap, reliable, works today.
Level 2 — Mixed reality: A MR headset (Quest 3, Vision Pro) overlays an avatar or custom skin on your real doll in the room via colour passthrough. Position tracking keeps the overlay locked to the doll.
Level 3 — Full integration: Trackers mounted on the doll feed its real position into a VR app (Virt-A-Mate, VRChat-style environments), while script-synced hardware responds to the scene. The enthusiast ceiling in 2026.

Tracking the doll
The trick that makes MR work: mount camera-based trackers (HTC Vive Ultimate Tracker) or IMU systems (SlimeVR) on the doll's head/chest. Two to three trackers are usually enough to keep an overlay anchored; software like Virtual Desktop or SteamVR's tracker fusion handles the rest. DIY builders use VMC (Virtual Motion Capture) bridges to feed tracker data into Virt-A-Mate and similar apps.
Script sync & haptics
Funscripts encode motion along the video timeline. MultiFunPlayer and Intiface Central (Buttplug.io) are the open-source backbone: they drive The Handy, Kiiroo Keon and DIY multi-axis platforms (OSR2/SR6) from the same script files. This stack is free software — the hardware is the cost.
What doesn't exist yet
Be skeptical of marketing claiming "fully integrated VR sex robots". As of 2026 no consumer product syncs a robotic doll's movements to VR content in real time. Realbotix's robotic heads add facial expression and conversation, but body motion remains DIY (OSR platforms) and passthrough overlays remain app-level hacks.
