Custom-Order Dolls: Body Builder Options Explained
The Chinese factories all offer a "custom" layer on top of stock bodies. Understanding the option tree prevents the two classic mistakes: paying for options that don't matter, and missing the one that would.
The option tree
Body options (choose per body):
- Skin tone: 5–7 standard; custom colors +$50–150
- Breast style: solid / hollow / gel (+$100–250, strongly recommended)
- Areola size/color, labia options: often free, vary by factory
- Standing feet (+$50–100), hardened toes
Skeleton options:
- Standard vs EVO (click-stop shoulders/hips) — take EVO whenever offered
- Shrugging shoulders, double-jointed elbows: +$100–300, nice for posing, not essential
Head & hair:
- Head swap within the factory's head library: usually free — the cheapest big customization
- Implanted hair (+$150–350, +2–4 weeks): the single biggest realism upgrade after material
- Factory makeup tier upgrades (+$50–150)
The one to avoid: celebrity/person-likeness sculpts. Illegal (publicity rights) and a counterfeit-scene marker.
Lead times and pricing reality
Stock configuration: ships in 3–7 days. Full custom (body + head + options): 2–5 weeks production. Custom adds typically $200–600 total on a $1,600 base. Photos of your doll before shipping ("factory QC photos") are standard from good resellers — always ask for them.
Where to spend, where to save
Spend: gel breasts, EVO skeleton, a head you love. Save: standing feet (unless you display), hardened toes, exotic skin tones, the fourth option category on every menu.
